Armchair/Shotgun: A Cock and Pull Story

Sometime in 2009 my buddy Evan Simko-Bednarski got an itch in his brain. During one of our bi-monthly trips to his family farmhouse in Oneata, he pitched me a scheme, which, like all Evan ideas, was at once brilliant and a little bent. I think the word I used was “cockamamie”:  A literary magazine (sure, there aren’t enough of those already, right?) printed exclusively on paper (because a web-publication would be too…expensive?), with all submissions considered anonymously (who needs author bios and publication histories?). Maybe it was the quart of whiskey we’d just finished, or Oneata’s sub-zero December temperatures, but somehow it just made sense.

Soon Ev, and I, and a few close friends got to brainstorming, mostly in one another’s living rooms, on rooftops, in bars. And thus, Armchair/Shotgun was born.

Today we are the proud parents of two issues, the second just released. We passed another milestone on Monday, a review in the aptly named Review Review.

I’ve mentioned A/S here a few times, but wanted to take a moment to tell y’all about this (in my ever-be-humble) truly unique magazine. I’m honored to be a part of it, to work with the crack staff, and to help publish some gobsmackingly talented writers, artists and photographers. You guys are awesome.
